A child with the Indian flagThe days such as Independence day and Republic day conjure up memories of those countless men and women who faced immense hardship and suffering in the heroic struggle for independence.. But gone are the times when even for an average citizen , the day held a great importance. Passing time has eroded our values and principles and also importance of these great days. The profound effect of this can be seen clearly in current state of affairs.

Today, the national days are seen more as a holiday and worst example of this can be seen in schools and colleges where students have little time to attend the flag hoisting ceremony. The schools and colleges of the country have to keep the attendance compulsory on national occasions. Its sad to witness that a student comes to attend such solemn occasions due to fear of losing some marks or paying a fine. Even adults are not behind in giving least importance to the great day. Its heart wrenching to know they are completely clueless about perhaps the most significant day of our country.

In reality, our patriotic fervour today is confined just to the cricket field. We can die for our country when it comes to cricket. If our team wins , we feel we have conquered the whole world. It is really shameful to observe that we Indians resort to processions and violent acts if our county loses a significant match. Remember how the whole nation stood up against the 11 players when India lost in the World Cup. I wish these protests were rather for social dilemmas our country is going through. For today’s youth, India is reduced to being a launch pad for entry into US or other cash rich countries, for instance, the episode of Sunita Williams and consequent celebrations in India clearly exhibit to what extent we are obsessed with the western culture.

We feel that a foreign label on our foreheads can only shows our true value to the entire world. This is really a dangerous trend. We are losing our own identity in the process. This mental survey to the western culture is making India lose its freedom once again and it’s high time that we come out of it before it is too late.

This growing lack of patriotism which is fast spreading its vicious roots in the minds of our youth and children is taking a catastrophic form and must be taken care of.Or else the future of our country which is bestowed with such a rich past/ heritage is going to be in deep waters. It’s up to us, the people, to stand up and feel proud to be a part of this nation which has nurtured our souls and hearts.

There is so much an individual can contribute towards the progress of our nation. We need to improve the tone of our social and economic life through improved work ethic and environmental behaviour.

yeah i agree to what is written in this post..People hardly have anytime for our national days.I guess we most of us look at these solemn days like holidays and enjoy at home or go for a movie.. its high time we should realize its value or else will loose out on this as well.

  2. Pariskhit Gupta says:

i totally agree with you. Now a days ppl only salute nd b a true INDIANS only on national days. the next days of 15th AUg or 26th v see flags lying on road. infact ppl njoy d holiday watchin movie, this days government should make compulsory workin days. And flag shouldn’t be distributed like a newspaper .

  3. Ashish Dinesh Babu says:

I really do agree with the author of da post..our patriotism is merely restrict’d 2 cricket..the veryflag hoisting ceremony is done insincerely & disrespectfully, as can be seen frm the mistakes made while hoisting the flag….even in schools, the school anthem is given more importance over the National anthem. The educationists fail 2 recognize dat every service 2 da school ultimately is 2 the nation….we MUST make amends and cement our bond towards our Motherland…

congrats to the above friends who feel strongly for our country. The blame for national degradation lies largely with the Politicians, Media and educated classes. They were to act as role model for the masses ,instead they opted for an easy life, exploiting opportunities, wherever and when ever available to them and forgetting their dues towards the masses………… If we are to be counted at the international level, we must forget our sectarian divisions and recognise our Indianess. Basically we are the good people but we have lost common platform to stand as one person. We have lost our role models, our heroes, our inspiration……. Our people are crying for liberation from hunger, illiteracy, and injustice…..Let us awaken ourselves, stand and fight for the glory of India. JAI HIND.

I totally agree!!our patriotism is DYING!!..but then the first step to stop it from dying TOTALLY is to make each and every citizen realize how our present situation exactly is..i mean in every household,i bet PARENTS and the ELDERS themselves don’t attach any importance to these days..and moreover, the UNHEALTHY competition levels and the stress levels students are facing nowadays are forcing them to overlook the significance of celebrating the national days..

  9. Arup Baroi says:

Very well written..truely inspiring. It touched my heart and forced me to think strongly for my nation.

  13. Opposed to popularized assumption, liposuction cannot make your undesirable fat vanish just like that. Undergoing plastic surgery makeover may be an ideal option for many. Of course, that does not mean that if your skin is not where you want it to be that there is no hope for you. Your best bet is to gain more knowledge through research.

  14. A powerful share, I simply given this onto a colleague who was doing just a little evaluation on this. And he in reality bought me breakfast as a result of I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the deal with! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love studying more on this topic. If possible, as you turn out to be experience, would you mind updating your weblog with extra details? It’s extremely useful for me. Big thumb up for this weblog submit!
