As the World observed the United Nations day for the Disabled on December 3rd, the Disabled human rights group based in Mumbai came out and demanded an unconditional apology from Shahrukh khan and Farah Khan for some insensitive scenes in the movie Om Shanti Om which have hurt the sentiments of the disabled people.
It seems that after veteran actor Manoj Kumar had demanded an apology from the makers of Om Shanti Om for making fun of the legendary actor and also playing with the sentiments of his fans, the movie has run into deeper trouble as the Disabled peoples Human Rights group has shown their displeasure.
The scene in contention is from the second half of the movie where the protagonist Om Kapoor is depicting the role of a physically handicapped character. The actor in the film questions as to how he can do a Dard- E – Disco without having any limbs. And then goes on to perform the song bare chested flashing his six pack abs as a part of a dream sequence. The scene where in he mocks the physically handicapped people has not gone to well with this human rights group. In a letter addressed to Shahrukh Khan- the lead actor and producer of the film and the Director Farah Khan, the group has demanded an unconditional apology and the scene in contention being cut from the movie.
The movie Om Shanti Om, one of the biggest grosser of the year at the Box Office had opened to packed theatres even as Saawariya’s relased on the same day. The Shahrukh khan Deepika starrer has been both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. A spoof on the Bollywood Industry itself, the film had earlier vented the anger of Manoj Kumar for showing scenes that ridiculed him. But after a visit and a personal apology from Shahrukh, Farah and Gauri Khan all seems to be well with Manoj Kumar. But this controversy might not be so easy to sort out.

Doesn’t all this controversies seems to be mastered by the producers of the movie themselves to garner free publicity, even though it may be in a negative form.
Going by the recent trends, its a common scenario today that every movie starring some big actors runs into controversy, so that the media guys shower a lot of news space and footage on them, thus achieving their target of free publicity.
And bollywood has now realized that it is in fact the cheapest option to promote a film rather than wasting crores of rupees on advertising.
Lets hope that bollywood grows up…?
